Fees & Insurance
In a better world we would all have adequate retirement plans and adequate health care, without deductibles, carve outs, etc., paid by all of us collectively. Alas, we do not live in that world, which appears to be France. Here, one must pay for everything, so we must earn everything.
Patients pay me for my time, education, training and experience, which is substantial at this point. My caring I give for free, as my students and anyone who has reached out for assistance can attest.
Payment is due at the time services are provided. Payment via Zelle, PayPal or Square Cash app [in that order] works best.
If you have a PPO or POS plan, I will provide a monthly statement that lets you seek reimbursement independently, with whatever guidance I can offer. While you should consult your own policy for specific details [they are all opaquely different], as a rough estimate, insurance can cover 50% or so of the cost once your deductible has been met.
For various reasons, I no longer accept HMO referrals at my private practice.
As of 2022 the standard fee for a 45-50 minute session is $300. If you were to see me for a year, 44 sessions [accounting for vacations, illness, etc] equals $13,200 annually. My fees are in line with community standards, and include normal communications by phone or email, patient related research, and most consultations with your other providers, as needed.
Abrupt cancellations disrupt treatment. In general, I require one week’s notice for planned absences so I can adjust my schedule accordingly. So if you get free tickets to a sporting event or concert and can suddenly attend that [lucky you] you will need to pay for the missed session.
However, I never bill for abrupt cancellations due to illness, child care, or other bona fide emergencies.
If you engage in frequent business travel that is arrranged on short notice, let me know and we can work out a reasonable plan.
I do see a few people for a significantly reduced fee, but these people are referred by physicians or psychiatrists with whom I have an established relationship, as a professional courtesy, and the length of treatment is not open-ended.
You may contact me to discuss your situation. If your financial circumstances are a barrier to working with me, I will do my best to assist you in finding an appropriate referral.
